- System
- Overhead lifeline on existing rigid structure
- Size
- 48 lifelines, about 20 m each
- Use
- Duct inspection, cleaning and maintenance
- Scope
- Design, supply and installation
The challenge
JTI Asia Manufacturing Corporation, part of Japan Tobacco International, holds its production areas to high standards of quality and safety. Dust settles on the elevated ducting and has to be cleaned regularly, but the housekeeping and maintenance teams doing it were working at height with nowhere suitable to anchor their harnesses.
The solution
828 Cable System designed, supplied and installed a certified overhead lifeline system on the plant’s existing steel structure, so workers are anchored from above while they move along the ducts.
- Sandwich-type brackets and intermediate supports fixed to the existing steelwork for a stable, load-bearing anchorage
- High-strength stainless steel wire rope with a mobile carriage
- Tensioning assembly and energy absorbers to keep the line taut and limit arrest forces
- Spring-type shock absorber for extra protection
- 48 lifelines averaging about 20 m each, close to a kilometre of protected line
The result
Duct inspection, cleaning and maintenance now take place with 100% tie-off and freedom to move, significantly reducing fall risk for JTI’s teams and contractors.
